“Deepening Our Roots”
As an African women-led organization, we recognize the great strides the women’s and girls rights movements have made throughout the past few decades. However, we have work to do. Our mission to nurture transformative leadership in girls and young women from under-resourced backgrounds remains more valid and urgent as ever. Recent global environmental changes, economic crises and socio-political trends, have disproportionately disenfranchised and marginalized underserved young women and girls. Particularly in the global south.
Our 2024-2028 strategic plan emphasizes on “Deepening our Roots,” an approach that seeks to empower young women and girls in Africa to become agents of change in their communities. “Deepening our roots” is a vital aspect of our mission, as we strive to nurture the next generation of African women leaders. ‘Deepening our Roots’ is a multi-prong approach aimed at returning power back to the communities we work in.
Over the next planning period, we will focus on further nurturing partnerships with community-based organizations and actors to facilitate this expansion. Further to this, Akili Dada will deepen its advocacy, systems change and movement building work in order to ensure that the rights of girls and young women are visible in public spaces, protected by governments and known.
